The Star Entertainment Group (The Star) is an ASX listed company that owns and operates The Star Sydney, The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane.
With a vision to become Australia’s leading integrated resort company, The Star has undergone continuous transformation over the last 10 years with the addition of new luxury hotels, mixed-use towers, restaurants, and bars.
Casino Drive is the main entrance to the loading dock and The Star’s entrance. This is currently used by delivery drivers accessing the dock and construction vehicles, which will soon be replaced with residential deliveries.
As one of the busiest loading docks on the Gold Coast, The Star’s south loading dock services all deliveries for the island including The Star Gold Coast, The Star Residences, The Dorsett Hotel, theatre/show bump ins and outs, as well as construction/contractor deliveries.
The dock was initially designed to accept less than 10 trucks per day, and is very tight, with certain vehicles such as semi-trailers requiring closure of the dock due to lack of maneuverability and space. The Star needed to manage the myriad of carriers and suppliers that use the docks daily, and to help meet their complex dock specifications in an efficient manner.
Mobiledock is a fully hosted, cloud-based web application. Its intuitive web-based design, and ease of configuration has been built to minimise any setup costs and allow the rapid and global deployment of the solution. Mobiledock enables dock delivery management from first appointment request for a delivery slot, through to confirmation of delivery completion.
Mobiledock was implemented to gain visibility and control the flow of traffic on Casino Drive, improve the arrival experience and reduce congestion in the loading dock area.
From any internet connected device, The Star can define and control their booking and execution process and monitor compliance, whilst simultaneously reducing congestion, number of required docks and carbon footprint, increasing efficiency all round.
Rules are created in consultation with suppliers/carriers for specific vehicles and load types to determine the allocated dock number and booking duration, and to close out access to certain days and hours of operation. Complementary suppliers/carriers are able to be grouped together to allocate a specific space, for example, construction deliveries were at their peak, add an additional 40+ deliveries to their day-to-day operations.
Since implementing Mobiledock, The Star has achieved increased visibility and control over their dock with the ability to plan, control and direct trucks according to dock capacity, as well as the ability to prioritise and resource their dock facilities to receive expected stock.
This increased visibility over the scheduling process has also improved safety on site, by reducing congestion at the dock and improved service management of Suppliers and Carriers.
Perhaps most impressive is the reduction in the average turnaround time from over 20 minutes, to under six minutes, and the capacity to now accept over 100+ vehicles per day in such a small space.
